National Family Literacy Day (November 1st) Visit a local library with your family and have each person pick out a book to check out and read together at home.

Make an
“All About My Family" Book.

Draw a self portrait using a mirror and then write a biography to put in the front of your family book.

Go on a nature walk and collect leaves. Sort the leaves you find from smallest to biggest and try to find leaves that look alike.

Make a Peanut Butter Birdfeeder to hang on a tree.

Read the Giving Tree with a special family member.

Introduce the color Yellow/Do a Yellow scavenger hunt through your toys and find ones that are yellow. Count the Yellow toys and sort them based on size and type.

Make a family book using pictures of each of your special family members. Write your favorite thing about each family member next to their picture.

Read the Very Hungry Caterpillar By Eric Carle.
Cut up fruits and vegetables and dip them in paint to make a unique food print picture (fun foods to use: corn on the cob, carrots, lemons, etc.).

Read Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.
Draw a picture of your bedroom.

Read Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney.
Draw or write a note and send it in the mail to someone who loves you.

Read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? By Bill Martin, Jr.
Make a Mixed-Up Magazine Animal.

Read The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.
Find a gently used book that you could share with someone who doesn’t have books and donate to a local shelter or hospital.

Have your child create Dried Leaf Art.

Go on a square scavenger hunt and take pictures with a camera of the items you see that are square.
